Funding Agencies

The Funding Agencies Explorer in InCites allows funders, analysts, researchers, and publishers to analyze the impact of research that has been funded, published or both funded and published by agencies by leveraging unified funding acknowledgment data from the Web of Science.

Published funding output type are the articles published by the funded, where the funded is an author on the paper.

Funding agencies, including research producing organizations like universities, must demonstrate quality decisions in their domain.

  • Are they funding the right people?
  • Are they making a difference?

The Funding Agencies Explorer in InCites can help justify these decisions by measuring citation impact of funded works, so funding agencies can benchmark themselves to peers and quantify their impact within the scientific community and beyond. InCites leverages unified funding acknowledgment data from the Web of Science, and provides a tool to explore the data with an eye to benchmarking and citation impact analysis; an InCites Explorer for Funders will be constructed.

The funding agency explorer includes more than 1000 unified funding organizations found in and curated from Web of Science funding acknowledgments. For your convenience, download a complete list of unified funding agencies.

Within the Funding Agency explorer, users can filter their analysis by Funding Data Sources using the below three options:

Funding Text will find information captured from authors' acknowledgments in the article text.

Funding Agency will find funding grants information coming directly from funding agency sources.

All Sources will find funding sources from article funding text as well as those coming directly from funding agency sources. This will initially include data from funding sources such as NIH RePORTER, Federal RePORTER , National Science Foundation, KAKEN, ResearchFish, Korea Institute of Science & Technology Information (KISTI), National Science & Technology Information Service (NTIS), and MEDLINE.
